Ayant un probleme de boite auto (la 3eme patine ,3.200t pour passer)
Je cherche comment différencié une 46rh d’une 42re sur un grand cherokee 5.2l de 1995

the main difference between the 42RE and the 46RH is the RE & RH symbols that follow. The 4 stands for 4 speed...the 2, I believe stands for the size of the unit.

the "RE" signifies that the tranny is electronically controlled..hence the "E" at the end.

the "RH" signifies that the tranny is hydraulically controlled..hence the "H" at the end.

ALL ZJs from late 1993-1998, with the 4.0L straight 6 engine, had the 42RE Transmission in them. Any V8 from 1993-1998 had the 44RE or 45RE, to the best of my knowledge. RAMS usually have the 46RH in them.

If you have the 42RE, look for another one, or a rebuilt unit. swapping a 46RH is damn near impossible (unless you want to change the wiring and computers in your vehicle too...PITA) Hope this helps.
